Our Code of Conduct

We ask anyone attending our events or interacting within our community to agree to comply with our code of conduct:

Always be kind and courteous. Whether in online or in-person settings, Neurodivergent Friends in Thanet (Neurodivergent Friends CIC, company number 14995886) will not tolerate any threatening, violent or offensive behaviour against its volunteers, staff, facilitators, participants, security personnel, host staff, or public members.

Prohibited & unacceptable behaviours, including but not limited to:

  • Harassment and exclusionary behaviours.
  • Threats of violence.
  • Discriminatory jokes and language.
  • Sharing sexually explicit or violent material via electronic devices or other means.
  • Personal insults, hate speech or bullying. Degrading comments about things such as race, religion, disability, ableism, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.
  • Unwelcome romantic, flirtatious or sexual attention, including outside of our events.
  • Use of illegal drugs.
  • Alcohol consumption (unless it is in an appropriate setting, e.g. we are hosting an event in a licensed bar where alcohol is being served.) We will refuse access to our events for anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Littering public or private spaces we use for events.

What happens if you break our code of conduct?

If you break the code of conduct a member of our team will discuss with you the nature of your behaviour, and will then take actions accordingly. This may range from giving you a warning, asking you to leave an event, to blocking you from our communication channels and not granting you access to our events until further notice.

We reserve the right not to offer a second chance and immediately ban participants who break our code of conduct when their actions are particularly dangerous, or if other members of the community, including NDFT staff and volunteers, do not feel safe to be around them.

We know that misunderstandings can happen and we will always try to first mitigate the situation with the person who breaks the code of conduct and resolve the matter as reasonably as possible.

In extreme cases, we may need to involve the local authorities. If we are alerted to inappropriate behaviour by a member of our community, we are not required to inform anyone of their identity unless given an official order to do so as part of a legal investigation.

Ultimately, we (staff and participants alike) don’t want such things to happen, so please be kind and respectful to others and follow our code of conduct. Thank you!
