What is the Creative Connection Club?

The NDFT Creative Connection Club is a programme designed to complement our regular social meetups and coffee mornings, offering a dedicated space for Neurodivergent adults to explore a range of creative activities shaped by community interest. Each month, sessions are facilitated by professional artists and practitioners, with a focus on creativity, connection, and environmental sustainability.

Found Sound part 1, Workshop Details

Led by Steph Dickinson, this workshop invites you to gently explore your everyday environment through the lens of sound and songwriting. Whether you’re new to music or an experienced creative, this session centres play, sensory exploration, and connection. No pressure, just discovery.

You’ll be guided through grounding listening exercises, exploring found or recycled objects (think pebbles and jars) as instruments. With voice, ambient textures, and lyrical prompts, we’ll co-create a shared soundscape or group song that reflects place, feeling, and the rhythms of daily life. All activities are trauma-informed and paced to support different Neurodivergent experiences, with the freedom to participate solo, in pairs, or as a group.

This is a low-waste, resourceful approach to music-making, with no specialist gear required. You’re encouraged to bring along found materials from your environment, but extras will be available. We’ll also reuse or donate anything left behind, supporting sustainability throughout the process.

This session is suitable for Neurodivergent adults of all backgrounds and skill levels. There’s no need for musical experience, just bring an open mind and a willingness to listen closely to the world around you.

Expect a warm, supportive atmosphere, where your pace is respected, your creativity is valued, and your voicehowever it shows upis welcome.

Facilitator Bio

Steph Dickinson is a songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with a deep-rooted belief in the power of music to nurture expression, connection and wellbeing. Over the past 20 years, she has led creative workshops in schools, pupil referral units, community spaces and arts settings. From 2014 to 2023, she was CEO of Pie Factory Music, where she championed inclusive music education and led programmes that empowered young creatives and built lasting community connections.

Her facilitation is shaped by lived experience, intuition and care. She specialises in working with people who have been marginalised by society, using songwriting and sound as accessible tools for exploration and self-expression. She takes a responsive, trauma-informed approach that centres safety, autonomy, choice and fun.

Whether we’re making rhythms with glass jars or shaping songs from the everyday, Steph’s aim is to support curiosity. Her role is to guide gently, create space for discovery, and hold a creative environment where all ways of showing up are welcome.
